Muhammad Faiz Bin Hamdan stint with the Police Coast Guard during his National Service days piqued his interest in Maritime and led him to pursue a career with Jurong Port. As a Port Operations Executive, he assists in the scheduling of berths for vessels. Planning is vital to ensure that all vessels can berth on arrival without delay. There might be special requirements from the vessels and as part of the role they will try their best to meet the needs.
Muhammad Faiz has learnt more about berthing matters, ship specifications, vessel requirements and the industry over the years. He relished the fact that the job provides him with a unique experience, and it’s never the typical day at work! “Whenever I share my role with others, I will receive questions about whether my job is fast-paced and stressful. The truth is there are resources and SOPs to provide guidance to complete the tasks.” He also appreciates the help from experienced teammates and his Reporting Officer, Shahnavas, who are always there for him and prepared to answer any questions. Indeed, there is a solid level of trust and camaraderie in the team.
Outside work, the outdoors is Muhammad Faiz’s playground. He enjoys kayaking while watching the sunrise in the ocean with mhis breakfast in hand! Besides that, he does outdoor survival, climbing courses, mountain climbing, and off-road riding overseas. He is also first aid trained; when the need arises, he can perform first aid on land or out in the sea.
Muhammad Faiz shared that working at JP has been fulfilling as he enjoys what he does and gets to pursue his interests outside of work! His thirst for new adventures has taught him never to hesitate at the sight of challenges but, instead, embrace them. It is his wish to excel in the maritime industry and continue to contribute his best to Jurong Port.
