Chief Digital Officer
Desmond Ong has been appointed as Chief Digital Officer as of 1 April 2024.
Prior to his current appointment, Desmond served as Vice President, Transformation & Technology Division from April 2019 to March 2024. He began his journey as a Lighter Terminal Manager with Jurong Port in April 2014, and was instrumental in implementing the first ever owned Pedestal Mounted Crane at Penjuru Terminal as a Port Operator. Since then, he has effectively led various transformational projects within HomePort including the establishment of a 300-men Stevedore Workforce Pool and the introduction of steel cargo handling tariffs to enhance stevedore industry professionalism. This directive included driving change with key government agencies and associations in the maritime industry. On the technology front, he drove multiple mechanisation innovations and digitalisation development at the waterfront to achieve Jurong Port’s vision as the Next Generation Multipurpose Port.
He has worked in the maritime industry throughout his career, having been exposed to a variety of functions with APL Co. Pte Ltd and AP Moller Maersk Group. His experience included Ship-Management, Regional Sales & Business Development, Vessel Network Planning and Corporate Planning that gave him rich insights to drive change for the future.
Desmond holds a High Merit Honors Bachelor of Business Management Degree with double major in Finance & Management from Singapore Management University. He is also certified as Service Lean Sigma Black Belt with Neville Clarke.
