SINGAPORE, 4 September 2019 – Jurong Port Pte Ltd is developing a Ready-Mixed Concrete (RMC) ecosystem to integrate an even larger portion of the construction supply chain within its premises. The RMC project will be a first-of-its-kind common user facility integrating components of the construction supply chain such as RMC batching plants, an aggregates terminal with handling and storage capabilities, with the existing cement and steel cargo which are also handled at Jurong Port.
Jurong Port’s strategic vision is to become a next generation multipurpose port through the development of port-centric ecosystems. The development of the RMC ecosystem represents another significant step following the successful opening of another port-centric ecosystem, Jurong Port Tank Terminals, in July this year. Jurong Port’s inaugural participation at this year’s International Built Environment Week, officially opened by Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance today, aims to showcase the national strategic benefits arising from greater land intensification and reduction in land trucking requirements which are two key benefits that will emanate from the RMC ecosystem at Jurong Port.
The International Built Environment Week (IBEW 2019) is organized by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore (BCA) featuring four dynamic anchor tradeshows from 4-6 September 2019. Themed “Transforming the Way We Build”, IBEW 2019 is the first fully integrated built environment event covering the entire built environment value chain and the largest in the Asia Pacific region.
Ooi Boon Hoe, Chief Executive Officer of Jurong Port said, “We are developing port-centric ecosystems and digital collaborative platforms, that connect landward and seaward supply chains for the industries that we serve, by unlocking efficiency gains firstly through the reorganizing of critical nodes along the supply chains, and subsequently through digitalisation to unlock even greater efficiencies and optimisation. This is a significant step for us as we move forward with our vision to become Singapore’s next generation multipurpose port and at the same time enable Singapore to reap national strategic benefits and reinforce the nation’s maritime hub status.”
Creating Value and Innovation through Jurong Port
The development of the new RMC ecosystem is a key part of Jurong Port’s strategy to serve industries by creating new value and innovation for its customers through port-centric ecosystems and digital collaborative platforms. Established in 1965, the port has expanded to serve as Singapore’s main general and bulk cargo gateway. Since its corporatisation in 2001, the port has continued to evolve to cater to Singapore’s industries such as construction, energy and chemicals, manufacturing, offshore marine and maritime logistics. Through building port-centric ecosystems and digital collaborative platforms, Jurong Port will move towards being a Next Generation Multipurpose Port and reinforce Singapore’s maritime hub status.
